Irrigation Product Certification

Consumers and jurisdictions alike are aggressively seeking ways to improve irrigation systems and efficiency at every opportunity. An IAPMO R&T mark of conformity quickly alerts everybody to the water conserving benefits of your products. Landscape designers and contractors look for certification when selecting products in order to ensure compliance requirements.

IAPMO R&T certifies products in relation to their water-saving features in order to better meet today’s global environmental needs. The Irrigation Certification Program offers the consumer a choice to select products that not only meet the minimum requirements of applicable standards, but also those that can be readily identified as more friendly to the environment.

IAPMO R&T’s Irrigation Program offers listings to the following standards:

  • PS72 - Sprinkler Valves with Atmospheric Vacuum Breaker
  • U.S. EPA WaterSense Spray Sprinkler Bodies
  • U.S. EPA WaterSense Soil Moisture-Based Irrigation Controllers

The WaterSense® program offers consumers a simple way to make product choices that use less water, with no sacrifice to quality or product performance. Products bearing the WaterSense mark are certified more water-efficient than products that don’t meet WaterSense standards.

Using water more efficiently will conserve supplies for future generations. According to a 2014 U.S. Government Accountability report, 40 out of 50 state Water Managers expect water shortages under average conditions in some portion of their states over the next decade. Each American uses an average of 88 gallons of water per day at home, but can easily reduce that figure by 20 percent by making simple changes.

Since the program’s inception, IAPMO R&T has been a licensed certifying body for the U.S. EPA’s WaterSense program, working with manufacturers to certify their products’ compliance to the WaterSense standards. IAPMO R&T was also among the first certification bodies to be ANSI accredited as a U.S. EPA WaterSense third-party certification body. ANSI accreditation adds value to the certification process, ensuring that certification bodies demonstrate compliance with the WaterSense product certification system and are capable and competent to carry out their responsibilities.
