The Water Demand Calculator in Practice (0.15 CEUs)
Primrose A, The IAPMO Water Demand Calculator® has been available since 2017. In the interim, many buildings have been built using its revised estimates of peak water demand. While there is clear evidence that the revised predictions are more in line with what should be expected based on current flow rates and patterns of use, there is limited data on what is going on in plumbing systems that have been built using the Water Demand Calculator as the basis of design. In this presentation, we will share field data that compares measured flow rates to the Water Demand Calculator and traditional Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) predictions in some of these buildings. We will also share data on the critical path piping for a 90-unit, mid-rise apartment building, looking at the flow rates, velocities, and pressure loss experienced in the different segments along this critical path. The newly released Water Demand Calculator Pro or WDC Pro software will also be discussed. Through detailed presentations and analysis, attendees will gain valuable insights into the performance and design considerations of water distribution systems.
Presenters: Gary Klein; Dean Petersen; John Lansing; Markus Langer
